GURUGRAM: The city recorded a slight improvement in air quality on Monday but remained in the poor level for the sixth day in a row.

The AQI was recorded at 209 (poor) on Monday while it was 221 on Sunday, 275 on Saturday, 201 on Friday, 281 on Thursday and 242 on Wednesday.

The 24-hour average of PM2.5, on Monday, was recorded at 104.26 micrograms per cubic metre — around two times higher than the permissible limit (60 micrograms per cubic metre).

While the AQI was recorded at 288 (poor) in Delhi, it was logged at 358 (very poor) in Ghaziabad, and 316 (very poor) in Noida. The 24-hour average of PM2.5 at Gwal Pahari was recorded at 96 micrograms per cubic metre.

The Met department said the air quality could improve in Gurugram as the wind speed was expected to increase. “The city is gradually witnessing an increase in the wind speed. This might help disperse particulate matters, thus bringing down the air pollution. The condition will further improve as light showers are expected on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning,” said a Met official.

“There is a forecast of shallow fog on Tuesday morning. Thereafter, partly cloudy and light rain in evening is likely,” stated a Met forecast.
