FALL RIVER — Are you 21 or older looking for a fun night out in Fall River?
Bowser's Basement is bringing retro games to a brewery near you.
“We bring the TVs and video games to you! Enjoy a drink and excellent food while you play your favorite games from Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Zelda, Pacman, Donkey Kong and much more” Bowser's Basement announced on their Facebook page.
Bowser's Basement, located at 186 Broadway (Route 138), Taunton, is connecting with Canned Heat Craft Beer, 52 Ferry St., to host Retro Game Night on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m.
There is no extra cost for playing the games or for entry. If your gaming skills are not high, don’t worry — it’s not a tournament, it's just for fun.
The owner of Bowser's Basement was the one behind the idea. He came up with this “outside of the box” idea after attending events at bars and started asking himself, “Why not a video game night?"
He said he believes that video games and brewers are a great combination because they both bring people together and allows them to socialize.
This is the first time Bowser's Basement is bringing this type of event to Fall River.
The owner said reviews have been favorable and he plans to continue putting on these types of events. As an owner of a game store, he said he has inside knowledge of what are the best games to pick. He said he is able to get a feel for what’s the most popular based on what people buy. Also, he asks for the customers' opinions and he is a gamer and collector himself, so he can relate to what the customer wants.
The games being played on Feb. 7 will vary from 1985 to 2019. Bowser's Basement's owner believes adults have much more fun playing games from their childhood than newer games. They are simple but still hard to beat, he said.
Retro games have a tendency to bring back fun memories and allows people to connect back to their childhood. The only difference is now while paying you can enjoy a beer too.
