1 killed, 4 injured in Mumbai-Pune Expressway accident

NAVI MUMBAI: A 60-year-old Mumbai resident at the wheels of a car died after he lost control of the vehicle, while four passengers, including an elderly woman, were injured.
The accident took place around 1.30 pm on Tuesday on the Pune-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Chikhale village of Panvel taluka. Driver Mohan Arvade was killed on the spot.
Sharada Kadam (65), Shashikant Kadam (60), Kalpana Kadam (47), Saurabh Kadam (19) have been admitted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe with injuries. Panvel taluka police said all the victims are residents of Kohinoor Mill Compound in Naigaon.
“The five were travelling to their native village in a WagonR car when the driver, Arvade, lost control. The speeding car flipped twice before crashing into a side barrier. Sharada Kadam (65) has been admitted to the ICU of MGM Hospital in Kamothe,” said Sunil Gurav, a police sub-inspector. Gurav said the Kadam family and the deceased were neighbours.
Police have booked the driver for rash driving, causing grievous hurt by endangering life, causing death by negligence and also under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police handed over the body of the deceased to his relatives.
