Is This The New Porsche 911 GT3 Or The GT3 RS Caught In The Open?

Porsche is currently testing future versions of the brand new 911, with the latest one scooped near Stuttgart, Germany, late in the evening.

The low light and viewing angles prevent us from trying to see if this is either the new GT3 or the GT3 RS. However, given the shape and positioning of the rear wing and tailpipes, we’re tempted to say it’s the first one.

Previous spy shots revealed the design elements that will set the new 911 GT3 apart from the Carrera and Carrera S, such as flared wheel arches, distinctive bumpers at both ends and different wheels with a single center lock nut.

Even without spy photos, we pretty much know what to expect in the cabin: the totally redesigned dashboard and center console that comes with the 992-models and an instrument binnacle with a traditional rev counter flanked by a digital screen on each side. Of course, there will be sportier seats and the usual trim updates and perhaps other minor changes to give the interior a sportier feel.

As for the powertrain, the all-new 911 GT3 is believed to retain a flat-six naturally aspirated. The exact displacement is unknown, but it sounds a lot like the one powering the outgoing 911 GT3, which puts out 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) and 458 Nm (338 lb-ft) of torque. A slight bump in power is the norm, though at this point we can’t talk about figures.

Purists will likely get to order the car with the six-speed manual gearbox, probably as part of the Touring Package, just like the current model. As for those who cannot be bothered with changing gears, they can always opt for the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch.
