The CW is hoping to bring its own Riverdale spin-off to the airwaves, with one of the series' originals set to star in the pilot for Katy Keane.

As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, the potential series will center on its title character, aspiring fashion star Katy Keene, who has yet to be cast, with Riverdale's own Ashleigh Murray joining the fold. Katy Keane will take place a few years ahead of Riverdale and find a twentysomething Josie moving to New York City to pursue her dream of becoming "the next Diana Ross." In other words, she's finally ready to escape her father's shadow and pave her own road in the music business -- hate to see the Pussycats break up and all, but it is high time for Josie to shine.

While this all sounds great, if Katy Keane is picked up to series, Murray will leave Riverdale altogether. However, it sounds like she'll make great new friends in NYC, as Katy Keane will follow the lives of four aspiring artists who (maybe, probably) won't be tasked with solving murders every season.

The first script for Katy Keene is being written by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also responsible for Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina spin-off, alongside Michael Grassi. The pilot will be directed by Maggie Kiley, who helmed two episodes of Sabrina and three of Riverdale.
