Man sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault of minor girl in Tamil Nadu

MADURAI: A fast track mahila court in Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday sentenced a labourer to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault of a 9-year year girl in 2016.
The the victim’s parents came to know about the abuse only about five months after it began. Her parents were shocked when she explained a strange game to her cousin. On inquiring with their daughter, her parents were shocked to learn that their neighbour, Manikandan (aged 39 years old in 2016), had been repeatedly sexually assaulting her over a period of five months.
Inquiries revealed that the accused had called her first under the pretext of teaching her a new game but molested and sexually assaulted her.
He indulged in the act after sending his two sons to play outside. He threatened to harm her if she revealed this to anyone. He repeatedly sexually assaulted her on Saturdays.
Based on a complaint lodged by the parents with Kanyakumari allwoman police, the accused was booked under section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and 506(i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
On completion of the trial sessions judge John RD Santhosam awarded 10 years RI to Manikandan and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
