Mystery shrouds Patiala ASI’s death

PATIALA: A 45-year-old assistant sub inspector (ASI) Jagjit Singh died under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Patiala on Monday. According to the cops, exact reasons behind his death could not be ascertained.
Sources said the cop reportedly died in an accidental shooting as the incident took place while he was cleaning his service revolver. Jagjit Singh was posted at Police Lines, Patiala, and the incident took place at around 11 am on Monday.
The police stated that it was Jagjit’s birthday on Monday and the family members were also present in the house when the incident took place. The cops added that post mortem examination of the deceased was conducted at Rajindra hospital after which the body was handed over to the family.
The cops said that the ASI was shot in the head and probe into the matter was being conducted. They added that a case under CrPC was registered to inquest further proceedings.
“The body has been handed over to the family after post mortem examination. The deceased was rushed to government hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors. The family was present in the house when the incident took place. They have claimed that Jagjit had incidentally shot himself, however, the probe in the case is on to find the exact reason behind the incident. Jagjit is survived by his two children and a wife,” said Rajesh Malhotra, Tripuri station house officer.
He added that service revolver of the ASI had been confiscated. Malhotra said as per the family of the deceased, he was not any kind of pressure or depression.
