LDF loses power in Malayinkeezhu
Aswin J Kumar | TNN | Feb 5, 2019, 09:11 ISTTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF lost power in Malayinkeezhu village panchayat after the no-confidence motion mooted by Congress against S Chandran Nair, who was the president, was passed with the support of BJP here on Monday.
S Chandran Nair (LJD) and eight other CPI(M) members did not turn up at the committee meeting. UDF, which has eight members in the committee, got the support of two BJP members and Sarojini R, vice-president of the committee and JD(U) member.
With the committee having ensured presence of 11 members to present the no-confidence motion and CPI(M) members staying off the committee, the no-confidence motion was passed in the committee, which has a total of 20 members.
The manner in which UDF and BJP got together to oust LDF president took the Left members by surprise. Congress members however said that it wasn’t any alliance but that they just stood together for a common cause.
Congress parliamentary party leader S Radhakrishnan Nair said that the recent violence witnessed by Malayinkeezhu during the hartal in the wake of Sabarimala issue and Chandran Nair’s alleged role in violence was one of the reasons for no-confidence motion. “He had also denied eligible beneficiaries benefits of LIFE Mission and misused powers to mobilize MGNREGA workers for women wall,’’ said Radhakrishnan Nair.
