Describing the resistance to questioning of the Kolkata Police Commissioner by officers of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as an attempt to protect the corrupt, BJP MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao has commented on Twitter that Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and N. Chandrababu Naidu are actually violating the Constitution by fraudulently claiming to save democracy. Mr. Rao was referring to the recent withdrawal of general consent to the CBI by the governments of West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
He stated on the micro-blogging site on Monday that the general consent to CBI was not an ‘omnibus exemption’ and pointed out the CBI was probing the chit fund case in West Bengal on the orders of the Supreme Court.
Reacting to Mr. Naidu’s tweet that the misuse of institutions by the Central government to victimise political opponents in States reached dangerous proportions, Mr. Narasimha Rao observed that preventing the CBI officers to do their duty amounted to ‘murder of the Constitution’ and dubbed the ‘save democracy front’ sought to be formed by the host of non-BJP parties as ‘a murder democracy front’.
“A.P. also has ‘political policemen,” the MP stated, hinting at the allegations faced by the Kolkata Police Commissioner who is under the CBI scanner now.
Dig at Naidu
In a separate tweet, Mr. Narasimha Rao stated: “In Chandrababu Naidu’s government, there is no protection for Central government funds and for public money. No protection for even Lord Venkateswara’s ornaments,” citing the theft in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams' Govindaraja Swamy temple which, he said, epitomises the loot in A.P. “Chandrababu Naidu is hypocrisy personified,” Mr. Rao commented, accusing him of threatening the BJP floor leader (P. Vishnu Kumar Raju) in the Assembly.
