2020 VW Jetta GLI’s Front End Previewed Ahead Of This Week’s Unveiling

Volkswagen is about to add another performance model to its North American lineup, the all-new Jetta GLI.

The car will debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, on February 7, and to mark the announcement, the company has released a short teaser video that gives us a look into the updated front end.

Compared to the regular Jetta models, the GLI’s grille scraps the chrome insert and horizontal slats for a black look and honeycomb pattern. It also gets a red line that runs across its width, just like its hot hatch sibling, the Golf GTI, and the headlights appear to be darker.

With the “body of a sedan and the heart of a GTI”, according to the caption of the video, the new Jetta GLI will take on the Honda Civic Si and Hyundai Elantra Sport. It will reportedly be aided by the same engine as the Golf GTI, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder lump, rated at 228 hp (231 PS / 170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

The 2020 Jetta GLI is expected to arrive with two transmission options, a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch. Sport suspension, progressive power steering with variable assistance, limited-slip differential and bigger brakes should be part of the package as well.
