LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath is set to take the road route to reach West Bengal's Purulia district to address party workers on Tuesday, a day after the Mamata-led government denied him permission to land a chopper in South Dinajpur's Purulia district. Sources said the CM will fly from Lucknow to Jharkhand capital Ranchi and then take a chopper to reach Bokaro, also in BJP-ruled Jharkhand.

From Bokaro, Yogi will hop into a car and his cavalcade will cross the Bengal border and reach Purulia, just 53km away. CM’s media advisor Mrityunjay Kumar confirmed Yogi’s Tuesday itinerary. The development comes amid a high-voltage drama in Kolkata where Mamata sat on a dharma amid CBI officers getting detained by Kolkata police after they swooped down on Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s official bungalow to probe the Saradha chit fund scam. Yogi will fly to Ranchi after attending the joint session of Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources said the programme was finalised late Monday after consulting the Raghubar Das-led Jharkhand government.

In Ranchi, the Jharkhand government has requested national Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to land their helicopters in the state and then proceed to Bengal for political meetings by road. Bokaro SP P Murugan said, “We have begun preparations to ensure a safe landing for Yogi’s chopper. We received an official communiqué about his expected landing around 3pm.”

The UP chief minister was scheduled to address two party conventions on Sunday, which he could not take off after the Bengal government scuttled his touchdown.

BJP has lined up a series of conventions, ‘Shakti Sammellan' as part of party strategy to showcase its strength in non-BJP ruled states like West Bengal, Kerala and Odisha.

Yogi is also scheduled to address party workers’ convention in Kerala on February 12 and 14 and then in Odisha on February 20.
