Cow dung stock stolen, govt employee held

Chikkamagaluru: Birur police are investigating a curious complaint of cow dung theft based on a complaint lodged by the department of animal husbandry.

According to police, the case involves theft of 35 to 40 tractor loads of cow dung worth Rs 1.25 lakh. A supervisor of the animal husbandry department has been arrested in connection with the case. Cow dung is used as a fertilizer by farmers.


Speaking to The Times of India, Birur police inspector Sathyarnaya Swamy said that senior officials of the department of animal husbandry approached Yagati police with a complaint that 35 to 40 tractor loads of cow dung stored inside Basur Amritmahal Kaval under the Yagati police station limits has been missing from the stock yard.


They alleged that the cow dung stock has been shifted from the Amritmahala Kaval to a private land. The total worth of the cow dung according to the complaint is Rs 1.25 lakh. “Based on the complaint which is lodged by the joint director, department of animal husbandry, we have registered a theft case. We have arrested a supervisor of the department in connection with the case,’’ he said.


Police said that the landlord in whose land the cow dung was found has also been named in the FIR. The cow dung stock will be handed over to the animal husbandry department after the mahajar, said police.
