The wife of millionaire horse trainer Bert Vieira spent months in an induced coma after a horror car crash on September 5. 

Gai Vieira, 68, is able to smile with one side of her mouth but still cannot move her limbs after waking up from a coma. 

On Tuesday Mr Viera attended a Downing Centre Court hearing of senior constable Harry Thomas Little.

Sen-Const little was at he wheel of the Highway Patrol's Ford Falcon when it collided with Ms Vieira's Mercedes on The Kingsway at Cronulla on September 5.

The officer was allegedly travelling at a speed of 124 km/hr in a 70km/hr zone with no flashing lights or sirens before the horrific accident in Cronulla, in Sydney's south. 

Mrs Vieira took the impact of the crash while her three-year-old grandson who was sitting in the backseat escaped uninjured. 

She suffered severe injuries, including broken bones, and punctured lungs.  

Little was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.  

Mr Vieira told reporters that his wife was awake and showing gradual signs of improvement. 

'She's good, she has her eyes open but still hasn't got the use of her limbs,' he said.  

'Sometimes, (if you) ask for as smile she moves (her mouth) on one side. 

'We have hope and we will continue to have hope.' 

Mr Vieira attended the court hearing with his son Trent Vieira, the Daily Telegraph reported. 

The policeman was excused from appearing at the court hearing which gave a brief mention of his charges, and the case was adjourned to March 14.

Sen-Const Little had been in pursuit of a motorist using their mobile phone when the accident occurred.

Since the accident Mr Vieira has since called for a ban on high-speed police pursuits for lower-level traffic crimes.  

Mr Vieira previously slammed Sen-Const Little for not showing up to the first court hearing in November last year, which Little was not required to attend. 

Outside court, Mr Vieira told reporters he was 'totally disgusted' the officer had not attended.
