Deaf, mute woman ‘raped’ by home guard

Representative image KANPUR:A 35-year-old deaf and mute woman was allegedly raped by a police home guard in a village in Gajner police area of Kanpur Dehat.
The incident took place on January 29, but came to light after the woman’s family members lodged a complaint at Gajner police station on Monday.
According to the woman’s brother, who has lodged a formal complaint, Sharif, who is a police home guard, barged into the verandah of the house, where she was asleep and then raped her.
Hearing her screams, when her 13-year-old minor son rushed to her rescue, the accused assaulted him and threatened them of dire consequences and escaped.
“On regaining normalcy, the survivor apprised the women inmates of the house about the ordeal through sign language,” said police. Police said that the accused has been arrested.
“An FIR has been registered under section 376 of IPC and the woman has been sent for medical examination. The accused works as a police home guard,” said SHO Gajner Shashibhushan Mishra.
