Gladys Knight delivered a spine-tingling rendition of the national anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday after vowing to bring people together.

Controversy surrounded the 74-year-old's performance since some have boycotted the NFL over treatment of Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback who protested racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem.

While some performers declined participation in the Super Bowl, Knight said she hoped her anthem would unite people.

Before Knight performed, the R&B sister duo Chloe x Halle, who were discovered by Beyonce, harmonized like a veteran girl group as they sang America the Beautiful.

Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi will headline the halftime show at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Kaepernick attorney Mark Geragos said the performers are 'crossing an intellectual picket line; they're saying to themselves, 'I care more about my career than whether what I'm doing is right.''

Knight previously said she's been working for civil rights and singing the anthem since she was a little girl.

She said everyone has an opinion, 'but once we get into that love thing, it all comes together and goes wherever and we end up clapping and having a good time.'
