MOHALI: Many Mohali councillors have opposed Mohali municipal corporation’s move to issue notices to encroachers without notifying the policy.
Kuljit Singh Bedi, a Congress councilor, got support from the house when he raised the issue of issuance of notices to identified encroachers, without notifying the encroachment policy.
He said, “It is unjust on the part of the civic body to have issued notices without notifying the policy. The Mohali municipal corporation must first announce the parameters of land encroachment then issue notices. Secondly, residents must be given two months’ time to remove encroachments.” Other councillors supported Bedi.
Reacting to this, the MC commissioner, Bhupinder Pal Singh, said, “We have adopted the policy which was formulated by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada). We will be uploading the policy on the MC’s website so that residents can understand the parameters of encroachments.”
The Mohali MC recently issued notices to residents, who have encroached the MC land. The notices were issued after conducting a survey in June 2018. As many as 4,200 residents were identified to have encroached government land in the city.
During the process of issuing notices, some residents alleged that the MC issued notices to residents, who hadn’t even encroachments the MC land.
