MADUARI: A Coimbatore-based man, who introduced himself as a chief executive officer of a share trading company, allegedly cheated a Madurai doctor of Rs 76 lakh over the last three years.
Based on a complaint filed by Dr Anthony Prince Amalan, 41, the SS Colony police registered a case against R Syamsundar and eight others. They were booked under various sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (ii) (threatening with dire consequences).
According to the police, the accused introduced himself to Amalan three years ago as CEO of a successful company, which invests money in share market on behalf of customers. He lured him to invest lakhs of rupees in mutual funds promising attractive returns. Apart from the doctor, some of his relatives too have given the accused money to invest in mutual funds.
Recently, the complainant came to know that the company was a fake one. When the doctor demanded his money back, the accused refused to give it. As the doctor kept demanding, the accused allegedly threatened him. He allegedly sent a gang of hired goons to the doctor’s home a couple of weeks ago. The gang damaged a door and electrical bulbs in front at the doctor’s home.
