  • Mother finds a sneaky way to stay stylish by wearing clothes she can return later
  • Chelsea confessed she buys $300 dresses, wears them once - then gets a refund
  • She returns the dresses because doesn't want to wear the same outfit twice

Staying up to date with the latest fashion can be costly.

But an Australian mother has found a sneaky way to stay stylish after spending thousands of dollars on clothes she has no intention of keeping.

Mother-of-two Chelsea, from New South Wales, confessed she's been buying $300 dresses, wearing them once for special ocassions - and then taking them back for a full refund.

And what started as an occasional habit quickly became a way of life.

She said she's been carrying out the money-saving tactic at least 'once every couple of months' for the past nine years.

'I try not to do it too often because I feel a bit bad about it. But (I will) if I have a hens' night or a wedding that I have to buy an outfit for,' she told news.com.au.

She explained she has worn up to 15 designer dresses before returning them because doesn't want to wear the same outfit twice.

The experienced returner said the trick to receiving a full refund without getting caught is to keep the garments clean at all times.

When she's wearing clothes she plans to return later, Chelsea ensures the tags are always tucked in - but if they are visible, she would remove it, then claim it broke off when she tried it on.

The confident shopper said she has never had a refund rejected.

After confessing what she does on social media, many were far from impressed.

'Wearing and returning clothing after one wear is just disgusting,' one wrote.

Another commented: 'Suggesting that there's insurmountable pressure to buy new clothes for every event is a bit silly, and is just an excuse to justify bad behaviour!'
