Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched, through video conferencing, the ‘Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub’ at Alagappa University here on Sunday as the university set to offer 16 new skill development courses.
Mangat Ram Sharma, Principal Secretary, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department, Prof N. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, and Prof H. Gurumallesh Prabu, Registrar, were present as the Prime Minister launched the hub from Srinagar, a release from the university said.
The launching ceremony was organised under the aegis of University’s Centre of Excellence for Skill Development at the conference hall on the science campus, it said. Mr. Modi launched 61 such hubs in 51 districts, spread across 25 States and an Union Territory.
In an interactive session with students, Mr. Sharma said the government was ready to provide all facilities and exhorted the students to utilise the facilities to hone their skills and start self -employment. He also called upon them to contribute to the nation’s growth and development as a token of their gratitude.
Interacting with the students, Prof Rajendran asked the students to be studious and earnest in acquiring skills which would help them in good stead in their future life. About 250 students from the Skill Development Centre witnessed the launching event, he said.
He said the university, which was granted ₹ 15 crore under RUSA 2.0, a Centrally-sponsored scheme for establishing the Centre of Excellence for Skill Development, has built the 13,500 sq ft two-storeyed Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub at the cost of ₹ two crore.
The state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre presently offered 14 certificate, diploma and postgraduate diploma courses under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) and proposed to introduce 16 more new courses, he said.
The existing infrastructure included 10 laboratories and five smart classrooms, he added.
