'Still here - never left!' Tom Brady, 41, posts emotional flashback montage to 2002 Super Bowl when he was part of the Patriots team who last faced off against the Rams - just hours before he prepares to do the same 17 YEARS LATER

  • Brady shared the emotional video on his Instagram page on Sunday morning
  • The NFL legend won his very first Super Bowl against the Rams back in 2002
  • Was the game many believe launched both his and the Patriots' enduring legacy
  • Brady and the Patriots have gone on to win four more Super Bowls together
  • If the team wins yet again on Sunday, Brady will make NFL history with six rings

When the New England Patriots last faced off against the Rams in 2002, things looked very different in the world of football.

The Rams, for starters, were in St Louis - not Los Angeles. They had appeared in two Super Bowls in three years. Their offense was nicknamed the 'Greatest Show on Turf'.

Meanwhile, the Patriots were only just finding their groove after their quarterback was hit during a Week 2 game that nearly killed him on the way to the hospital.

Tom Brady, a sixth-round pick at the 2000 NFL draft, took his place. He was 24 years old.

The rest, as they say, is history and a 41-year-old Brady couldn't help but look back at his very first Super Bowl win as he prepares to try and win his sixth on Sunday.

Brady took to Instagram on Sunday morning to share an emotional montage of the Patriots taking down the favored-Rams at the Super Bowl XXXVI.

The video features Brady and his teammates speaking about what it means to put on their uniform and play on football's largest stage.

'The bonds between us, the belief in something larger than yourself, makes a city, a team, a dream, grow,' they begin.

'It's never about one person, one play, one game. Win or lose, we do it together.'

'When you put on your uniform, you carry much more than the name on your back and the name on your front.'

Many consider the Patriots 2002 Super Bowl appearance against the Rams, which ended with a 20-17 win, to be the game that launched their legacy

'You play for each other, for those who came before you and for those who will come after you.'

'When you put on your uniform, you carry the heartbeat of a city, a team, a dream that will live on forever.'

The video ends with Brady then screaming 'LET'S GO!'

Brady captioned the video 'Still here. Never left.'

It was the first time Brady was named Super Bowl MPV. He would receive the honor three more times in 15 years, most recently in 2017.

It was also the Patriots' first Super Bowl win. They would go on to win four more times - in 2004, 2005, 2015, and 2017.

'I've just been beyond blessed,' Brady said during his final press conference before Sunday's big game.

'I think when you've been in the positions I've been in, you just count your blessings every day.'

'I've just been a part of so many great teams that have had the opportunity to play in this game,' he continued.

'It is once in a lifetime, this experience, but we've just been fortunate to play good enough in the playoffs to advance and then get to play in this game.'

'It's hard to believe that this is the ninth time doing this.'

Brady had the chance to celebrate reaching yet another career milestone with his family at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta during on Saturday.

The star quarterback happily posed for photos on the field with his parents, wife, and children as he prepared for yet another Super Bowl appearance.

The Brady bunch were among more than 800 friends and family members that joined players, coaches, and front office staff ahead of Sunday's big game.

'This breaks up the day and lets them participate in it with their families,' coach Bill Belichick said.

'This is a dream for every player to play in this game, so to be able to share it with loved ones and family is special. We have tried to embrace it.'

It was Belichick who a young Brady had asked for permission to skip the team flight so he could go to Disney World after that first incredible Super Bowl win in 2002.

'Of course you can go,' Belichick said at the time. 'How many times do you win the Super Bowl?'

If Sunday goes Brady's way, the answer could be a record-breaking six.
