GURUGRAM: Undeterred by his debacle in the Jind bypoll, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Sunday launched a scathing attack on BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana, claiming people were angry with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar as they had “failed to fulfil their poll promises”.
“Before the elections, BJP talked about development for everyone, but after polls it has only worked for development of the BJP leadership and destruction of the state,” he said at Jan Aakrosh Rally in Mewat’s Badkali Chowk.
With two consecutive rallies, the Congress seems to have launched a full-fledged campaign in the run-up to the forthcoming Lok sabha polls. On Saturday, Captain Ajay Yadav had addressed Haryana Parivartan Rally in Pataudi, a stronghold of Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh.
He said the Congress, after forming government in the state, would resume Rajiv Gandhi Ranney Well project and establish a university in Mewat. “We will also request Maruti to set up a factory at IMT Mewat. The Gurugram-Alwar rail line will be launched once the Congress government takes over at the Centre,” he said.
Surjewala, a core committee member of Congress, urged the people to rise against the divisive politics of “phoot, jhooth and loot’ (division, falsehood and loot), which has become the face of BJP governments at the state and the Centre”.
Referring to the Indian National Lok Dal and recently floated Jannayak Janata Party, Surjewala alleged both parties were supporting the ruling BJP in the state. “Every vote for any of them is an indirect vote to BJP, Modi and Khattar,” he said. Former minister Bachan Singh Arya, ex-deputy speaker Azad Mohammad, Haryana Mahila Congress chief Sumitra Chauhan, former MLA Shiv Shankar Bhardwaj and AICC spokesperson Sanjay Chhokar were present at the rally.
