The last day of Pusya Masam falling on Monday called Magha Amavasya may disappoint devotees as shortage of water at Ghanpur anicut threatens to send their plans of a holy dip at river Manjeera for a toss.
Auspicious occasion
A large number of devotees would arrive here at Edupayala on Amavasya for the dip. This Amavasya will symbolise the beginning of jataras in several temples across the State including that of the Komaravelly Mallanna temple.
However, Ghanpur anicut has completely run dry with only muddy water remaining in some places. Locals allege that diversion of 15 tmcft water from Singoor in 2017 had an adverse impact on not only crops but also on the devotees.
It was stated that allowing devotees to take bath in the muddy water may lead to skin problems.
“If shower lines are connected to borewells, it will go a long way in facilitating the holy dip. MLA M. Padma Devender Reddy must take the lead and get water released for the anicut to meet devotees’ requirements,” said B. Muralidhar a resident of Medak.
