Mehak Jain | TNN | Feb 3, 2019, 07:05 ISTLudhiana: One can now see mini gates coming up in the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) campus to facilitate the flow of traffic. A mini gate has already been installed outside the main Kisan Mela ground, and two others are going to be installed near the Food & Nutrition department, and the hospital.
Construction had started for the installation of these mini gates during the visit of chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh when he was there to inaugurate the hospital at Gadvasu a fortnight ago. Now, masons are seen installing them. PAU estate officer Dr Vishwajeet Hans said: “With the installation of these mini gates, all barricades will be removed and only vehicles with stickers and proper authorisation will enter the campus.”
A good news for PAU students is that they can park their vehicles near a gate coming up close to the hospital. PAU estate officer Dr Hans said: “Now, students can park their vehicles near the hospital, which will help them as their hostels are nearby. It will eliminate barricades and help security officials look after the free flow of traffic in the campus.” Though timings to open and close the gates are not decided yet, as construction work is still going on, but it is sure apply after the working hours.
An official said: “Security is of great concern, but these gates will give a congested look to the campus, especially towards the DSW department, as that road is the broadest, frequented by many visitors. They should focus on other construction work in the campus.”
Dilpreet Singh, a student of B.Sc Agriculture (VIII semester), said: “We can park our vehicles near the hospital, but still the issue remains that we cannot ply vehicles in the campus. I feel more parking zones should be created, and cars allowed inside the campus.”
