While addressing party's Jan Akansha rally (People's Expectation rally) in Patna, Congress president Rahul Gandhi promised to give central status to Patna University, if the party comes to power.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declined to accept chief minister Nitish Kumar's demand from the dais for central university status to Patna University.

While addressing the rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan, Mr. Gandhi said that Bihar was earlier the seat of learning but today no professors were in universities here.

"Education has collapsed in Bihar today...youths have become unemployed," he said.

Mr. Gandhi also declared that he would implement all welfare measures for farmers in Bihar too, which was done in three states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh.

“My government will also give minimum income guarantee to everyone in his bank account in the country,” said Mr. Gandhi.

He also slammed Mr. Modi for giving crores of rupees to Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya.

"But he gives only ₹17 to a farmer and ₹3.5 to each member of his family," charged Mr. Gandhi. He reiterated his criticism of PM Modi with the slogan "Chowkidar Chor hai".

Mr. Gandhi also declared that Congress would play from front foot in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and form Grand Alliance government in Bihar and the Center too, with support of RJD and other constituent parties.
