NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has announced a major water cut in almost all parts of the city on Monday, February 4, between 10am and 5pm. The water supply will be affected due to an electrical repairs work which will take place during this time at the Bhokarpada water treatment plant.

"The water cut will be experienced in various city nodes, such as Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul, Belapur, Turbhe, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli, due to the technical issues at Bhokarpada. Hence, citizens are requested to cooperate and use water judiciously on Monday," said a civic official.

The water from Morbe dam is supplied to the city via the Bhokarpada filtration plant. Once the power issues are resolved here, the normal water supply will resume later on.

"Around 420 million litres per day (MLD) is the daily water supply to various parts of NMMC areas from Morbe dam, cartering to a population of over 14 lakh. Citizens will have to cooperate if any technical repairs are to take place there. However, I would also request the NMMC to ensure that water is not stolen by tanker mafia and also ensure that water is not wasted en route to the city due to leaks in the pipeline. Already, several parts of Panvel and Kamothe are facing water issues," said a city activist.

Civic officials also informed that low pressure water supply may be experienced in different parts of the city on Tuesday, as efforts are on to connect a direct water supply line to Cidco's Kamothe node.
