HUBBALLI: The state BJP unit announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will sound the poll bugle in Karnataka for the Lok Sabha election from Hubballi on February 10.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, R Ashoka, former deputy chief minister and Modi’s poll campaign in-charge, said the Hubballi rally will be the first of “four to five” rallies in the state being proposed for the PM.
Ashoka said Modi is expected to address an audience including party workers from neighbouring districts at KLE Medical College Ground near Gabbur bypass. He said Modi will address a rally in Kalaburagi on February 17.
Ashoka said BJP national president Amit Shah will address two rallies in the state on February 19 and 27, locations for which are yet to be identified. He insisted the Modi wave will work in Karnataka. “His tremendous work in the last four and half years will definitely help and the party is certain to win 21 of the 28 seats,” Ashoka said.
Meanwhile, on the state front, Ashoka denied claims the BJP is trying to destablise the coalition government. “As of now, the BJP has not planned to move a no-confidence motion during the next assembly session.”
‘Sumalatha welcome to join’
Hubballi: BJP leader R Ashoka said the party will welcome Sumalatha, wife of late Congress leader and Sandalwood star Ambareesh, if she wished to join the saffron party.
“There is no clarity from which party she intends to contest, but if she shows a willingness to join the saffron party, the party would welcome her,” he said.
