Ludhiana: In order to make people aware about the ill-effects of drugs, the district administration has organised 362 awareness camps under the Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO) programme in Ludhiana till date.
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had launched the programme on March 23, 2018, coinciding with the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Describing DAPO as a major initiative, the deputy commissioner said it was the top-most priority of the Punjab government. He said the chief minister’s office is closely monitoring the programme on a fortnightly basis.

He said this programme has been designed as a doorstep model and aimed at generating a mass movement, whereby each DAPO will aim to make his locality a ‘Nasha Mukt Mohalla’.

He said all employees of the Punjab government and elected representatives of panchayati raj institutions are the ex-officio DAPOs under this programme.

Till date, 88 camps have been organised in villages falling under the jurisdiction of community health centre (CHC) Machhiwara, 56 by CHC Manupur, 35 by CHC Sudhar, 34 by CHC Pakhowal, 27 each by sub-divisional hospital Jagraon and CHC Payal, 26 by CHC Sahnewal, 25 by CHC Malaud, 12 each by SDH Samrala and CHC Dehlon, 9 by CHC Koom Kalan, 3 by SDH Raikot and 2 each by civil hospital Ludhiana, SDH Khanna, CHC Sidhwan Bet and CHC Hathur.

The deputy commissioner informed that all villages and urban areas of the district would be covered under the DAPO programme, so that maximum number of people are made aware about it.
