Police nab two Bishnoi-Sampat gang men after Patiala shootout

PATIALA: The Patiala cops on Saturday evening arrested two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat gang following a shootout in Ranjit Nagar area near Siona village on the outskirts of the city. However, three members of the gang managed to escape.

Before they escaped, the gang members fired seven-eight rounds at the police, and they too retaliated. No one was reportedly injured in the shootout, but it caused causes panic in the area.

On being quizzed, the two accused were identified as Mani and Navneet from Kaithal. They revealed that they were staying at a house rented by students in the same locality for the last three days.

The police took them to the house where they found the 10 persons, who claimed to be students.

Sidhu said the police inspected the house and found only one notebook and several empty bottles of liquor, which aroused their suspicion. He said the police team was now trying to verify the credentials of those found in the house.


He said that the occupants of the house were paying a rent of Rs 7000 and had hired two domestic helps for the same amount.


The police also recovered two pistols from the accused nabbed after the shootout. The SSP said the accused were suspected to be involved in the recent murder of a jeweller in Ambala. He said the police in the adjoining areas of Patiala, had been put on alert.


Meanwhile, the occupants of the house where the gangsters were staying have been detained for questioning. The SSP said. He said the kwid car was yet to be recovered.


"The two gang members have stated that it was the other three who had snatched the car and had parked it at a location which was not known to them", the SSP said.
