MANGALURU: KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao said that BJP has been offering crores to poach MLAs in Karnataka.

He told reporters here on Sunday that the BJP was ready to spend money to the tune of Rs 200 - 300 crore to poach MLAs through Operation Kamala. “Some of our MLAs have told me that they (BJP leaders) have been offering (money) as much as they want. BJP MLAs are ready to deliver money to the tune of Rs 25 crore, Rs 30 crore or Rs 40 crore. I wonder how BJP gets such a huge amount. They may need at least Rs 200 – 300 crore to carry out their task (Operation Kamala). Where do they get that amount? They spent crores for their MLAs’ stay in the Seven Star hotel. We have also taken our MLAs to an ordinary place for discussion because BJP leaders including Nalin Kumar Kateel had announced that they will form government within a week. They were all set for horse trading to destabilize our government. It means that Kateel is also part of corruption and he is involved in horse trading.

On seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Rao said, “Discussions on seat sharing have not at all begun. It is true that some people are raising demands for tickets to their leaders. It is their right. JD(S) may ask a seat which is stronghold of Congress and it may happen vice versa also. A final decision will be taken by the high commands of Congress and JD(S) based on the criteria of victory prospects. Our common objective is to bring more seats to Congress and JD(S) and thereby reduce the strength of communal BJP, which spreads only lies,” Rao said.

On discontent within Congress, he said, “I have warned all party leaders not to issue unnecessary statements that hurt the Congress-JD(S) coalition. There is a good rapport between the Congress and JD(S). However, at local level some voices may arise and it will not affect the coalition. In fact, there is more discontent in BJP, but they are all forced to remain silent. Congress has given freedom for everyone to speak,” he said adding that a joint parliamentary committee meeting will be held soon to sort out all differences.

AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal said there is no trouble in coalition. He also charged BJP of making attempts for horse trade in Karnataka. “We have full confidence in chief minister H D Kumaraswamy. All allegations are baseless,” he added.
