NEW DELHI: BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday took a swipe at the new Congress government in Madhya Pradesh and said that atmosphere of oppression still prevails in the state.

"There is significant relief among the people after the BJP could not form government in Madhya Pradesh. However, the initial work done by the new (Congress) government has not generated much satisfaction among the people. The atmosphere of oppression is still prevailing," the BSP leader said.

The BSP had initially ruled out a pre-poll alliance with Congress in Madhya Pradesh but extended support after the election to help the party form government in the state.

The BSP chief, however, claimed that she decided to support Congress only to keep BJP out of power as she otherwise had serious differences with the party's ideology and policies.
