The three-day philatelic exhibition “Gandhipex 2019” hosted by the Department of Posts on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded here on Sunday.
A total of 1,615 students from 63 schools participated in various competitions and 90 students won the prize. Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh presented the prizes to winners of various events which included ‘phil hunt’, quiz, ‘design a special cover’, painting, fancy dress and rangoli competitions.
Amalorpavam HSS won the first and third prizes in the ‘Dart the country on world map’ contest with Aditya Vidyashram bagging the second place. The three-day philatelic event was marked by release of special covers and cancellation, including ones on ‘Mahatma-Mahakavi-Aurobindo’, Puducherry’s tourism landmarks on the opening day of the exhibition by former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and one on Jipmer.
A prize-winning design by M. Dhesika, Class VI of John Dewey Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Panruti, was released as special cover by M. Sampath, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle. R. Anand, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region; A. Govindarajan, Director of Postal Services, Chennai; and Akhil R. Nair, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Puducherry division, participated.
