AGRA: Seers from Ghaziabad-based Shivshakti Dham Dasna have come out in support of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha’s secretary Puja Shakun Pandey and justified the recreation of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. They dubbed the police action against her “wrong” and a sign of “dictatorship” by the administration.
Addressing the media in Aligarh, seer Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati said, “What’s wrong in killing the effigy of Mahatma Gandhi? How can police impose the sections of riots against the activists?"
He said, “If we can burn the effigy of Ravana, what is wrong in burning the effigy of Gandhi, who was responsible for the alleged rape of many women?" He said that it is unfortunate that police cannot remove the photo of Pakistan’s founder Mohd Ali Jinnah from AMU, but they can easily target Hindu nationalist.
A woman seer, who accompanied the Saraswati, questioned that how can police impose the IPC section of 153 A for promoting enmity between two different groups. Saraswati said he did not expect anything positive from the Yogi government.
He claimed that a pistol used in the killing of Gandhi was of CM Yogi’s dada guru Mahant Digvijaynath.
On January 30, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC against Hindu Mahasabha’s national secretary Puja Shakun Pandey, Ashok Pandey and 10 unidentified persons. The case was registered after a video surfaced showing some persons, led by Pandey, firing three shots from a pistol at an effigy of Gandhi, and then setting it on fire. The alleged incident took place outside the Hindu Mahasabha office under Gandhi Park police station area in Aligarh.
Six activists of the Hindu Mahasabha have been since arrested. However, Puja Shakun Pandey and her husband Ashok Pandey are still absconding.
