PATNA: The state government has made elaborate arrangements to maintain law and order during Monday’s Bihar bandh called by the Mahagathbandhan or Grand Alliance (GA) constituents to protest the alleged police lathicharge on Rahstriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) chief Upendra Kushwaha.

Kushwaha, who had received injuries in his head and right hand due to alleged police lathicharge during his party’s ‘Aakrosh March’ on Saturday, is undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).

DGP Gupteshwar Pandey said he would ask all SSPs and SPs to ensure maintenance of law and order during Monday’s bandh. “Hooliganism will not be allowed at any cost,” he added.

Patna DM Kumar Ravi said additional police forces and magistrates would be deployed at Dak Bungalow roundabout, Hartali Mor, Raj Bhavan, Patna Junction and other places to avoid any untoward incident.

“Schools will remain open. We will hold a meeting with bandh organisers to know about the places where they will stage protests,” Ravi said.

Meanwhile, RLSP state general secretary Satyanand Prasad Dangi said the party workers burned CM Nitish Kumar’s effigy at all district headquarters in the state at 3pm on Sunday to protest the police lathicharge on Kushwaha.

“All GA partners – RJD, Congress, RLSP and HAM-S – are united against the police high-handedness on Kushwaha. Monday’s bandh will be total. However, we will spare emergency services, including ambulances, from the purview of the bandh,” Dangi said.

On Sunday, Kushwaha’s updated medical report said his condition was “normal”, but he felt giddiness when he left bed and tried to stand up. The doctors attending on him said the giddiness was due to low blood sugar level. “According to doctors, Kushwaha will remain under medical observation. He has been advised bed rest at least till Monday,” Dangi added.

Kushwaha could not join the Congress’s rally at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday due to the injuries he had sustained in Saturday’s incident.
