Ain’t no mountain high enough for Germany's Zugspitze postman

This record-breaking mountain still gets mail and this man is brave enough to deliver it.

Powerful winds, rains and winter storms are part of a day's work for Andreas Oberbauer.

He's the postman for Germany's highest mountain - the Zugspitze.

The 53-year-old's daily commute, whatever the weather, involves a cablecar to the summit, 2,962 metres above sea level.

His customers are researchers at the Schneefernhaus, a former hotel turned environmental station, and a mountain-top restaurant.

And each letter has the area's unique postal code, 82475.

Oberbauer has been in charge of the Deutsche Post DHL branch here since 1995.

(SOUNDBITE) (German) ZUGSPITZE POSTMAN, ANDREAS OBERAUER, SAYING: "For me, this is very special.

When you are able to deliver post on Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, you get to know all the post customers, deliver all the postcards, also put the Zugspitze's own stamp on the postcards.

When it comes to tradition - my father did this for 25 years up here - it's a very special experience.

He always told me that again and again." And one day, he hopes his son might be intrepid enough to carry on the family tradition.
