The Central Bureau of Investigation is on the lookout for Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with chit-fund cases, according to the agency.

“We have been looking for Mr. Kumar, but he remains untraceable,” said a CBI official.

The IPS officer had earlier supervised investigations into various chit-fund cases. The CBI wants to collect relevant documents from him.

On Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora expressed his displeasure over Mr. Kumar’s absence from a meeting with Election Commission officials in Kolkata.

“The Special Commissioner attended the meeting. We are told that the DGP and the CP separately report to the Home Secretary who has attended the meeting. However, we have sought an explanation,” he added.

Commenting on the absence, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee later said that it was “a small matter”.

“He [CP] has completed three years. There is an EC norm that an officer who completed three years in a place should be shifted out and the process has to be completed by the end of February. So he went on leave and could not attend the meeting…sorry if there was any problem,” the Chief Minister said.
