Opposition top guns to add shine to Rahul Gandhi rally

PATNA: Two big stages with LED screens in the background have been made ready at the historic Gandhi Maidan here for the ‘Jan Akanksha Rally’ of the Congress to be addressed by party president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday.

The Congress is holding its solo rally in the state after a gap of 28 years. The party members were seen working on a war footing at the Maidan on Saturday to make the rally a success.

Rahul will address the gathering from stage I, which has the capacity to accommodate 20 people. Three newly-elected Congress chief ministers – Kamal Nath (Madhya Pradesh), Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan) and Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh) – will share dais with the Congress president.

Others on the dais will be senior leader Ahmed Patel, party secretaries from Bihar Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Ranjeeta Ranjan, Chandan Yadav and Mohammad Jawed. BPCC president Madan Mohan Jha, CLP leader Sadanand Singh, BPCC campaign committee chairman Akhilesh Singh and four working presidents of the party will also occupy the main stage.

Grand alliance leaders Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, HAM (S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha and Mukesh Sahni will also be sitting with Gandhi on the main stage. Sources said the Congress president would address the rally at 1.15pm.


Rally ground management committee vice-chairman Sanjeev Singh told TOI on Saturday that the second stage will accommodate 200 people, comprising party MLAs, former presidents of BPCC and heads of different cells of state Congress.


Sanjeev said sitting arrangement for one lakh people has been made at the venue and separate barricading done for women. “To give a clear view of the dignitaries on the stage, 60 big screens and 400 LED lights have been installed at Gandhi Maidan. Altogether 20 mobile toilets and 400 CCTV cameras will also be there in and around the venue,” he said.


Raj Kumar Rajan, who was looking after the food preparation at Gandhi Maidan, said dry vegetable, ‘puri’ and ‘bundia’ will be served to the participants of the rally.


Another small stage has been set up at the Maidan for cultural programme which will be held before the beginning of the rally.
