A day after President Donald Trump suspended the United States' compliance with the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty, Russian President Vladimir Putin  has done the same .

Putin called his move a "tit-for-tat response" to the U.S. and said that Russia would not begin any new talks to save the Cold War-era treaty until Washington responded to its proposals.

Trump has said that the U.S. will fully withdraw if Russia doesn't fully re-commit to the terms of the treaty within 180 days.

President Trump has  accused Russia  of violating the ban on developing ground-launched nuclear missiles since 2014.

In his announcement of the U.S. suspension on Friday, he said: "We cannot be the only country in the world unilaterally bound by this treaty, or any other." Russia has said there is no proof of its violations and in turn, has accused the U.S. of violating the treaty, too — through its development of combat drones.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already announced his support for the proposed development of missiles that would have previously been banned under the terms of the INF treaty.
