The humble travel twinset looks chic and on point like never before. Long gone are the days of the Juicy Couture trackpants as today the tracksuit has emerged as a must-wear travel ensemble for our Bollywood celebrities.

Sometimes seen in solid monochromes, and other times, embossed with logos all over — the sporty piece has redefined active-wear dressing in B-Town with many actresses rocking it with aplomb at the airport lounges and promotional events. 

Always showing a penchant for utilitarian wear, Sonakshi Sinha was spotted keeping it chic and comfortable in a printed tracksuit by Falguni and Shane Peacock, which she paired with Adidas sneakers. Style chameleon Kangana Ranaut succumbed to the logo mania trend, showing up in a Gucci brand print twin set at the airport. Known for her easy and simple style lines, Anushka Sharma was photographed layering her abstract print number over her crop top. What makes this closet staple such a popular option among celebrities is the fact that it’s super comfortable, complements most body types and doesn’t compromise on the style quotient. 

A case in point being Alia Bhatt’s recent outing where she added a touch of polish to her athletic piece by accessorising it with a Saint Laurent tote. Also, worth mentioning is Deepika Padukone’s check print sporty ensemble, which she finished off with statement sunnies. We got stylists to trace the tracksuit’s evolution. 

Tracksuit on track 

Athleisure hit the fashion landscape by storm seven years ago, and its innovation shows no signs of slowing down. Sneakers, bomber jackets and sporty accessories have made inroads into the red carpet arena too. However, tracksuit’s myriad versions and its ability to lend itself to multiple styling options make it a hit among celebrities and their stylists. Stylist Isha Bhansali says, “I see a lot of colour blocking and logo prints among the key trends. However, OD-ing on the overall logo overkill and clashing multiple prints doesn’t suit everyone. Recently Kangana Ranaut was in a Gucci tracksuit with multiple accessories from the same label though I wish she had ditched at least one element.” 

Comfy and chic 

In a scenario where you have a pap attack waiting to happen anywhere, these pieces come in handy. Stylist Eshaa Amiin sees the tracksuit’s trajectory getting even more pronounced this season. “Designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock have done a sportified collection of tracksuits which are comfortable, stylish and easy going — ideal for your travel looks and also for a casual outing as paps are stationed outside everywhere.”
