A Delhi court on Saturday granted interim bail till February 16 to Robert Vadra in a money-laundering case and asked him to appear before the Enforcement Directorate and cooperate in the investigation.
Mr. Vadra, who is abroad, on Friday filed an anticipatory bail application in the case linked to the allegations of money laundering in the purchase of a London property — 12, Bryanston Square — worth £1.9 million. The property is allegedly owned by Mr. Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Counsel for Mr. Vadra said he would return to Delhi from London on February 6 and join the probe.
Taking note of the assurance, special judge Arvind Kumar directed Mr. Vadra to appear before the ED after his return. The court asked him to furnish a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and a surety for a like sum.
Special Public Prosecutor D.P. Singh and advocate Nitesh Rana, appearing for the ED, opposed Mr. Vadra’s petition and said he had also got kickbacks in a petroleum deal in 2009.
