THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the first time in the history of Kerala police – and less than a month after the Kerala Police Act was amended with a view to cleansing the department of tainted personnel – 11 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) were demoted to junior ranks simultaneously.
The officers are reportedly planning to approach the high court and challenge the order.
K S Udayabhanu, Vijayan S, Ashok Kumar S, Ulhas Kumar M, Vipindas A, Raveendranath V G, Manoj Kabeer M K, Santhosh Kumar R, Sunil Kumar E, Anil Kumar T and K A Vidyadharan are the officers whose posts have been downgraded.
According to the earlier rule, if an officer is eligible for promotion, he would be considered for it even if he was facing any kind of disciplinary action. Minor penalties were not treated as a bar for promotion.
Meanwhile, the government also decided to promote 26 police officers from the rank of inspectors to DSP and assigned them postings.
In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the government also effected transfers of 53 DSPs and 11 ASPs. This is based on instructions of the Election Commission to transfer police officers who are working either in their home district or have already completed three years of service at a place.
