35.6% hike in allocation for welfare of SC/STs in budget
TNN | Feb 2, 2019, 07:11 ISTIn the Union budget presented on Friday, finance minister Piyush Goyal announced a 35.6% increase in the allocation for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The increase would come across central ministries as part of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Sub Plan. Finance minister Piyush Goyal said the allocation for Scheduled Castes has been hiked from Rs 56,619 crore for 2018-19 to 76,801 crore for the coming fiscal.
He said the allocation for 2018-19 had anyway been scaled up to Rs 62,474 crore in the revised estimates. For the Scheduled Tribes, the budget has allocated Rs 50,086 crore, up from Rs 39,135 crore, which is a 28% increase.
