Man gets life term for neighbour’s murder

KURUKSHETRA: The court of additional district and sessions judge Rajinder Pal Singh sentenced a Karnal man to life imprisonment for murdering his neighbour over a petty dispute.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on convict Ajay Bakshi of Shiv Colony.
The crime dates back to April 30, 2017, when Ajay in an inebriated condition had attacked Bihar-based Shankar Mehto, a resident of Railway Colony, Mohri, Shahbad in Kurukshetra, with a wooden stick. At the time, Ajay lived in his neighbourhood.
According to victim’s wife, Shankar had asked Ajay to close the tap whose water had entered former’s house. Losing his temper in the process, Ajay had gone to his quarters and started abusing him. Afterwards, Ajay attacked him and fled the spot. Shankar had received serious injuries on his head. Shankar had been admitted to a hospital in Mohri. He was being shifted to PGI, Chandigarh when he had died on the way.
