Work on new Vallakkadavu bridge

With the construction of the new bridge at Vallakkadavu yet to begin, the Public Works Department (PWD) has asked the District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) to stop heavy vehicles weighing three tonnes and above from using the existing, old bridge.

The PWD has erected a sign board warning that the bridge is off-limits to vehicles weighing three tonnes and above. Nonetheless, heavy vehicles including buses continue to use the bridge. Although the PWD had transferred the site to the contractor, construction is reportedly getting delayed because the department is yet to designate space for unloading the construction materials. Under the contract, the new bridge has to be completed in three months.
