A youngster from Guntur of Andhra Pradesh was picked up by the cyber crime police of Hyderabad for allegedly indulging in character assassination of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s daughter Y. S. Sharmila.

Confirming the development to The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Avinash Mohanty said the accused person, identified as Venkateswar Rao (21), was nabbed by their team in Guntur and was brought to the State capital for investigation.

Venkateswar Rao, a second year MCA student, is a native of Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh and was picked up after tracking the IP address from where he was transmitting sexually explicit material against Ms. Y. S. Sharmila.

Mr. Mohanty, asked about the youth’s affiliation to any political party, said Ms. Sharmila had alleged that a few activists of the Telugu Desam Party were trying to defame her ahead of the general elections.

It could be confirmed during further investigation. Police said the accused would be produced before a local court in Nampally here.

“We are also suspecting the role of a few more people and they will be questioned soon,” said an officer.

Complaint

On January 14, the sister of YSR Congress Party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy, had met Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar and requested him to take stringent action against rumour-mongers who were using social media and YouTube to tarnish her image by linking her to Bahubali fame Prabhas.

Ms. Y. S. Sharmila lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police, based on which a case was registered and Rao was arrested.
