THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Friday's Union budget is the last, desperate attempt of a government that is sure of losing the upcoming elections, said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. Over the past four years, prime minister Narendra Modi was lavishly helping a few corporates. The poor and ordinary people of the country came to his notice when elections arrived at his doorsteps, said Chennithala.
A budget that announced some sops for ordinary citizens will not help the government to escape its anti-people policies during its tenure. The government is trying to fool the people by offering some sops when there is not even a month left for the announcement of elections. People can identify false promises, he said, adding that people will ensure that the government will not get another term.
At the same time, BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai said the Union budget reflected economic advancement and stability that NDA government achieved over the past four years.
"The whole world is keenly watching the growth of the country; we registered the highest growth rate. This budget will give enough confidence to cadres to approach people seeking votes," Pillai said, adding that prime minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Piyush Goyal should be commended for presenting a budget that ensures development whiles atisfying all sections of the society.
