Cop injured by car during pursuit in Brisbane

A police officer is in hospital with serious leg injuries after a vehicle backed into him during a pursuit in Brisbane's south.

The chase began just after midnight on Saturday morning when the vehicle sped away from officers who had approached it at an Inala service station.

A police helicopter helped track the vehicle to a motorway on-ramp at Richlands, where an officer tried to stop it with a tyre deflation device.

Police said the vehicle became blocked behind a wide load and reversed into the 38-year-old male sergeant.

He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, while the three men in the car were taken into custody, and police investigations are continuing.

Inspector Tim Partrige spoke to Nine News of the incident.

"Police officers realise and understand the risks of their work but it is distressing when one of your own is injured," he said.
