Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the Indian Science Congress, an event that garnered global attention in the past, is dishing out stupid and absurd ideas today.
“Even academics are competing to prove that there is scientific evidence to some incidents in the Ramayana and Mahabharata to establish the tradition of the country. By stating that the Kauravas are test-tube babies, Ganapati is an example of plastic surgery, Karna's birth is related to genetics and Dasavathara is better than Darwin’s theory of evolution, they are trying to tie science with epics and puranas and propagate baseless notions,” he said inaugurating the 31st Kerala Science Congress at Fatima Mata National College here on Saturday.
Such disinformation, he said, is nothing but a deliberate attempt to stun the scientific sensibilities of future generations. “The communal forces will always try to resist a progressive social evolution springing from scientific awareness. They want to Hinduvise science,” he said.
Awards handed over
The Chief Minister handed over the Science Literature Awards instituted by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) on the occasion. The awardees included Pradeep Kannancode for Science Book (Children’s Literature), K. Babu Joseph for Science Book (In-Depth Science), Cherukara Sunny Lukose for Science Journalism, P.P.K. Poduval for Malayalam Translation.
M.C. Dattan, scientific advisor to Chief Minister, presided over the function while Fisheries Minister J.Mercykutty Amma, Mayor V.Rajendrababu, N.K Premachandran, MP, M.Mukesh, MLA, M.Naushad, MLA and college principal Vincent Netto also attended the event.
