Fake priest escapes with gold jewellery worth Rs 50,000

CHENNAI: A fake priest escaped with two sovereigns of gold jewellery worth Rs 50,000 on the pretext of conducting pooja in Chitlappakkam on Thursday night.
Police said Seshadri, 70, of Muthulakshmi Nagar, was looking for marriage proposals for his son Gowtham, 31.

Since no proposal worked out, one of Gowtham's friends told him about Santhanam who could help him out by conducts pooja.


Santhanam told the family that a pooja was needed for driving away evil spirit. He asked them to put two sovereigns of gold jewellery in a pot with a lid for the pooja.


The family obeyed. He then asked them to remove the lid a day later and left the house. When the family opened it the next day, they found nothing.


Based on a complaint filed by the family, the Chitlappakkam police are investigating.
