HYDERABAD: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Friday arrested an Assistant Engineer (AE) of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) when he took Rs 40,000 bribe from a contractor to process the road construction work done by him.

Acting on a complaint lodged by a private contractor , the ACB team laid a trap on Friday afternoon and caught the accused red handed when he demanded and accepted Rs 40,000 bribe from the contractor at Government Primary School in Hafizbaba Nagar, Chandraynagutta.

“The private contractor had laid a cement concrete (CC) road near Sabeel-us-Salam in Salala, Barkas of Kanchanbagh division. The GHMC official demanded bribe from the contractor for recording the road laying work in the measurement book (M-Book) so that the contractor gets paid,” an ACB official said. The ACB team will produce the official before the court for judicial remand.
