GURUGRAM: A 28-year-old man died and his friend was injured after their Maruti Alto overturned inside the Rajiv Chowk underpass on Wednesday. The man, who suffered injuries, has said the car was hit by a vehicle from behind. This is the third fatal accident inside one of Gurugram’s underpasses, this year.
Around 9.30pm, the two friends were returning to the city from Bhondsi when the accident happened inside the underpass which connects the court road to Sohna road. Police said that Rohit (28), a resident of Delhi’s Najafgarh, and Manish (30), a resident of Jacobpura, were rushed to the hospital by passersby. The former was declared “brought dead” while Manish is now out of danger, according to Civil hospital doctors.
Police said that Rohit was working with a security company and was deployed at IGI airport. Manish is an engineer with a private company. He said, “Rohit was driving and I was next to him. We suddenly felt a massive blow and knew something had hit us from behind. The car lost balance and overturned. I don’t remember anything else.”
Police have taken the damaged car into custody. An FIR was registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC at the Shivaji Nagar police station on Thursday. “We are trying to identify the vehicle which allegedly hit the car and the driver with the help of CCTV footage,” said ASI Shri Bhagwan, the investigating officer.
